The White Belt is your very first step in the Lock Pickers United belt ranking system. It shows that you can pick basic locks and submit proper proof to the community.
At this stage you’re not expected to handle security pins or high-end locks. White Belt is about demonstrating that you understand the fundamentals: tension, pick placement, and successfully opening a lock.
How to Earn Your White Belt in Lockpicking

White Belt is about demonstrating that you understand the fundamentals: tension, pick placement, and successfully opening a lock.
Step 1: Make a public post on r/lockpicking
Go to: https://www.reddit.com/r/lockpicking/
- You can either post a photo of the lock in the open state to the reddit or you can send a message with the imgur/photo proof directly to the mods
- Provide a clear photo of the keyway of your lock (cutaway, acrylic practice lock, or basic Master Lock are common).
- No video or full pick required

Generic acrylic practice padlock
Cutaway practice lock (ideal for beginners)
Master Lock No. 3 or No. 4
ABUS 45 laminated padlock
Master Lock No. 1 or Timpson brass padlock
The Right Tools for White Belt
At this stage, the Lockpick Pros Trainee 2.0 is all you need. It includes 15 picks designed for beginners to learn different techniques, durable handles for grip and control, and tension tools to practice proper torque. With this set you’ll be ready to pick your first locks, take your photo proof, and earn your White Belt.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Do not send an empty modmail. Always include a link to your public post and your image proof.
Do not post a thread that simply asks for a belt without attaching the photo. These will be excluded.
Do not use bypass methods. Reviewers will request clarification if they suspect bypassing.
Social Bonus Rules
When your posts must be made:
Only social media posts created after the date that each belt is officially awarded on r/lockpicking will count toward the bonus. Older posts you made before your belt promotion are not eligible.
What qualifies: Posts must clearly tag @lockpick.pros (fb/ig/tiktok) @lockpick_pros (twitter/x) or @lockpickpros (youtube) in the caption, description, or video text. Posts must remain public and accessible. Platforms that count: YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X (Twitter).
How to earn bonuses:
