How-To Earn Your Lockpicking Belt and Unlock Reward Picks

If you are like me and have been to the reddit forum, it can be daunting to fully understand what needs to be done. We wanted to make it simple and provide examples for you so that you know exactly what needs to be done and how to do it. Below we have included links and formats to use in order to start getting ranked today. Please see requirements before you start.

Overview

The Belt Ranking system is the standard way the locksport community tracks progress and skill. It uses colored belts to represent increasing levels of difficulty and community contribution. The authoritative rules and the accepted proof formats are maintained by the r/lockpicking wiki. Reddit

Lockpick Pros will support this community system and reward customers who achieve belt promotions using our tools. Each belt has its own reward pick which will be determined at random on submissions. These rewards are meant to help you on your ranking journey and encourage that you see it all the way through. The first person who reaches blackbelt using our tools from start to finish will receive a specialized limited edition pick. We will make sure it was worth it.

**Requirements Before you start

• Your Reddit account must be at least 30 days old
• You must have some post or comment history
• ALWAYS follow community guidelines
• In order to win the grand price you must have all media active and all tags correct. In order for views to be counted on IG/TikTok social post you must tag our appropriate socials @lockpick.pros on that platform and use the hashtag #lockpickprosBlackBeltChallenge. For the youtube video you must include a link to our product used.
• If your reddit account already has a belt ranking, you must use a new one as existing belt rankings cannot be tracked.
• You must be 18 years or older to enter.

How the official system works in practice on Reddit

Standard belts

White, Yellow, Orange, Green, Blue, Purple, Brown, Red, Black

Step 1: Prepare your proof

Record one photo (for the lower belts) or a continuous video when for higher belts based on belt requirements. Show the lock in the locked state, the model, your tools, the open, and gutting if the belt requires it. Follow the wiki evidence rules. Reddit

The post should be made to the r/Lockpicking subreddit.

Post Title: “Blue Belt Application – [Lock Name] + [Project Type]”

Post Content: - A brief description of the lock you picked. - The picking method used (single pin picking, raking, etc.). - Any difficulties you encountered. - A link to your unedited picking video (hosted on YouTube, Streamable, or another public video platform). - Details about your Blue Belt project, including photos, videos, and explanations.

Once your post is live, send a modmail to the r/lockpicking subreddit with a link to your post. The mods will review your submission and award your belt if it meets the requirements.

Recommended Lockpick Pros kit for each belt level

We recommend specific Lockpick Pros kits so customers know what to use for each belt.

Lower belts and early progression

Mid to high belts

Specialized and rare lock families
For dimple locks and disc detainer locks use the specific sets made for those families. The Carbon Fiber Gen 2 is not suitable for disc detainer systems and should be avoided for disc detainer submissions. We will call out the appropriate Lockpick Pros expansion kits on each belt page where those locks are required.

One or more qualifying beginner locks opened on camera. Continuous video is preferred. Use your Trainee 2.0 kit for best results.

Evidence and filming checklist to include on each belt page

1. Show the locked state and the lock model or identifying mark at the start of the clip.

2. Show the tools you will use at the start of the clip. If you are using Lockpick Pros picks show that by displaying the case or grips. Use the Trainee 2.0 for lower belts and the Carbon Fiber Special Gen 2 for mid to high belts unless the lock family requires a different set. 

3. Keep the pick session continuous. If you show multiple locks use clear timestamps for each open.

4. Do not use bypass techniques. The evidence must show legal picking.

5. Respond to reviewer questions in the thread if asked for clarification.
